Here’s My Latest Design…
So my hope for my website is to gear it more towards a tool for me to design websites for other people and making my blog a page on my website, which I have been playing with already. My blog will still be me blogging about what is important to me (which most posts end up being ways to point myself and my kids toward Christ).
I put my first designs (yes, from my website) on Etsy and on this post for you to see. My favorite part of starting this blog was and still is the design process. I urge anyone who is interested in making their own website to check out the Genesis framework with Dynamik. If you have no coding experience, but you want to be able to learn and have no limits with building a website and building websites for clients then this is for you. Here is a link to check it out…
They have a great forum for support, so that any questions you run into are answered by their knowledgable team. Even Eric the web developer answers your questions himself! When I first got my domain from Dream Host- I picked dream host because they were advertised on WordPress (I picked WordPress at the time because I noticed it was the management system that a blog I followed used) and had one-click installation (aka easy for a newbie). I still love the ease of use of WordPress to manage my website and the great support from WordPress as well as Dynamik. After starting to work on a website for a friend, I’ve checked out Go Daddy as a web hosting service and it does seem to offer more for your money than other web hosting services at a good price. When my year is up with Dream Host, I am thinking about changing to Go Daddy.
So why should you create your own website or blog? If you have a business or a skill that you want to market, but don’t want to pay a web designer the great amount of money that it takes to get a great website- that is where WordPress.org comes in, which is FREE. That is how you can get a great management system, but then how do you a great design for it? That is were Genesis Dynamik comes in (or if you are not motivated enough, that is where I come in ~ :) ). It does take time, reading, asking questions, and patience to do really anything, let alone create a website. There will be a lot of changes constantly that you will make, but that is what it takes to make anything work as you learn step by step.
So, in summary… Yes! is the answer to Genesis Dynamik for creating websites. You can create your own website with no limitations- as you do see limitations with Blogger and the other free blog management systems out there. They (Blogger and the like) give you set designs that you can not change, where as with Genesis Dynamik you are able to play around and create your site your way. And if this is not your thing, I would LOVE to do it for you for a lot cheaper. :) Here is a link to information on getting your website designed by GracefuLily ~ Click HERE
Yay! The day I’ve been nervously anticipating is finally here. I took my website off to design it myself, the way I wanted it designed. I took an online course called WordPress Theme Design from the International Website Association (IWA), and I bought the Genesis Framework (it’s been compared to the framework of a car but for websites) so that I could design my own theme. I also am playing around in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. I’m hoping to start taking one class or two a semester towards getting a degree in web design. Anyhoo, that is my dream and plan, but I’m still praying to know if that is God’s direction for me. I would love to be able to work at Landon and Judah’s school in the future as a computer technology teacher and design my husband’s orthodontic business website…. more dreams. :) So, you will continue to notice my site changing as I continue to learn more in the design realm.
So…I thought I would start my website’s “new” debut with Truth in the Tinsel an Advent experience with your kids that is an Ebook in lesson plan format by OhAmanda, which if you’ve read any of my previous posts you know that I loved doing this advent experience with my kids last year. Landon literally jumped up and down as he realized we were doing it again this year. It’s not just a fun craft to do with them each day during Advent, but a way to really delve with your kids into the Bible with what Christmas is really about.
And, what’s a new website relaunch without a “giveaway”? OhAmanda is generously giving away two of her Truth in the Tinsel Ebooks!
