We just finished our ornament and reading from day two of Truth in the Tinsel, which focuses on Jesus’s never-ending kingdom. I think it will be a lot of fun this year with Judah being 3 now and able to do a lot more by himself now. These activities are for any age, but you will have to tailor them accordingly. For example, Landon is 6 and can pretty much do the craft ornament that goes with each day of the advent activities by himself, but to make day one’s “Light of the World” ornament I held the candle template for him so he could trace it. That is the only part I helped him with for this activity. For Judah, on the other hand, I traced his template, let him cut out the outside circle, but then I cut out the middle part. He was then able to glue his strips of tissue paper on and glue the back of his candle on to the ornament. If you are doing Truth in the Tinsel with your kids, you will know how to judge what they need help on and what you can let them go to town on. :)
We read the Isaiah 9:2-7 passage together yesterday and today ~
“The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned. You have enlarged the nation and increased their joy; they rejoice before you as people rejoice at the harvest, as warriors rejoice when dividing the plunder…For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this.”
After reading the passage we talked about what this means using the questions that go with lesson that are provided and tying it to the meaning of the ornament we made. Here are some pictures of us doing Day One and Two.
